Provide your Feedback on the New Ethics Code by 4/24!
The ACA Code of Ethics is a key resource for ensuring the ethical standards of the counseling profession. To ensure it continues to reflect our shared values and professional standards, the 2014 Code of Ethics is currently being revised and updated.
Before it is finalized, the ACA Code of Ethics Revision Task Force has invited all counselors to offer public comments on the draft 2026 ACA Code of Ethics. Feedback must be submitted by April 24, 2026.
As of the ACA conference, only 80 people had engaged with the draft. 80!!! Let's do our part as PCA to ensure that the draft is critically reviewed and reflective of the realities of practice in the present.
PROVIDING YOUR FEEDBACK
As you prepare to share your comments, there are important details that you should keep in mind:
- To view the Code of Ethics and leave your feedback, you will need to access Counseling Nexus.
Note: You must be logged in with a confirmed Counseling Nexus account to add or read comments. Need to create one? Use the "Need to sign up link," after clicking on the person icon on the top right of the screen.
- You do not need to be an ACA member to provide feedback.
- When leaving your comments, you must set “VISIBILITY” to “My Public Annotations” for others to see your comments. If you have this set to “My Private Annotations,” you will be the only person able to see the comment. If you do not see "My Public Annotations", this means you have not confirmed your Counseling Nexus account.
- Review the instructions on how to read and add comments on the page before leaving your feedback.
- The Revision Task Force will find feedback the most helpful if it provides specific suggestions regarding how a standard can be strengthened or improved provided it is constructive, specific and grounded in professional practice.
- Please be respectful of differing perspectives and remember this is not a forum for seeking ethical guidance or discussing specific situations or case studies.
By participating, you are ensuring that ACA hears from professionals who are contributing to the development of professional standards that help uphold the integrity of the counseling profession while shaping a code that is reflective of both our professional values and the realities of practice.
