Mandatory Child Abuse Training

PA New Regulation

Act 31: Mandatory Child Abuse Training for LPCs

Effective January 1st, 2015, all LPCs in the state of Pennsylvania will be required to submit evidence of approved child abuse recognition and report training. Individuals applying for a license will be required to submit documentation of 3 hours of approved training. For LPCs applying for renewal of a license, 2 hours of approved training are now required as part of the 30 hours of continuing education.

Training may be completed online so long as it is in compliance with standards of continuing education in the state of PA (ie, no more than

20 of the required 30 hours are completed online) and meets the standards outlined in the amendment:

“Training curriculum shall be approved by the department and shall address, but not be limited to, the following: (i)  Recognition of the signs of abuse and reporting requirements for suspected abuse in this Commonwealth. (ii)  For institutions, facilities and agencies under paragraph (1)(i), their policies related to reporting of suspected abuse.”
