The purpose of professional development is to serve PCA members and all professional counselors and marriage and family therapists by offering continuing education and the opportunity to earn contact hours towards recertification and license renewal through the PCA state conference and its divisions and chapters. Upcoming Continuing Education Workshops and Trainings On Saturday, May 1, 2010 the Delaware Counseling Association and the Delaware Mental Health Counselors Association will jointly present a conference and workshop based on the theme "Resilience Across the Lifespan." Our luncheon speaker will be Rita Landgraf, Delaware's Secretary of Delaware Health and Social Services, and the afternoon workshop will focus on helping counselors to become more resilient. The conference will be held at the New Castle, DE campus of Wilmington University. Sensory Integration in Children Susan Larson Kidd, Ed.D., Ed.S The goal of this program is to provide the relevancy of understanding sensory systems, regulation and dysfunction and the impact this haas for children in potential learning, social interaction, and behavior. Furthermore, the goal of this program is to help participants acquire strategies and resources in order to create and implement a sensory integration diet or plan for children and youth within home, work, school, or a facility. D., ABPP The purpose of this intensive suicide-specific program is to examine the critical issues of understanding the suicidal mind, clinical assessment of suicidal states (including instrumentation-based assessment), treatment interventions, suicide among various population groups, and ethical/professional dilemmas with implications for malpractice liability and sound practice. Professional development (PD) is most active from September through May. The chair of professional development is responsible for gathering requests for approval of each workshop and the state conference for continuing education, issuing approval for each workshop/state conference, processing contact hours in person at the state conference or by mail for division/chapter workshops, and maintaining the records for current and prior years of PCA professional development. PCA Professional Development Forms: PCA Annual Conference: The annual PCA meeting provides an excellent opportunity to earn contact hours for state licensure and/or board certification renewal!
For Presenters at the PCA annual Conference or at other workshops If you would like to count an educational session or workshop that you have given toward your own CEU requirement, the licensure board requires that an application be submitted, along with the payment of a fee, in advance of the presentation. The application and process can be found here.
ResourcesPCA parent association American Counseling Association (ACA) makes available to professional counselors and practitioners of other mental health professions a wide variety of professional development resources, resources such as books, videos, and home-studies. One resource, in particular, is professional counseling's flagship journal, the Journal of Counseling & Development. Most of them meet continuing education unit (CEU) requirements for professional counseling state licensure and board certification, and in many cases, for the psychology and social work professions, as well.
