Professional development (PD) is most active from September through May. The chair of professional development is responsible for gathering requests for approval of each workshop and the state conference for continuing education, issuing approval for each workshop/state conference, processing contact hours in person at the state conference or by mail for division/chapter workshops, and maintaining the records for current and prior years of PCA professional development. Please follow this link to view the process of continuing education.

PCA Annual Conference: The annual PCA meeting provides an excellent opportunity to earn contact hours for state licensure and/or board certification renewal!

For Presenters at the PCA annual Conference or at other workshops

If you would like to count an educational session or workshop that you have given toward your own CEU requirement, the licensure board requires that an application be submitted, along with the payment of a fee, in advance of the presentation. The application and process can be found here.

Resources

PCA parent association American Counseling Association (ACA) makes available to professional counselors and practitioners of other mental health professions a wide variety of professional development resources, resources such as books, videos, and home-studies. One resource, in particular, is professional counseling's flagship journal, the Journal of Counseling & Development. Most of them meet continuing education unit (CEU) requirements for professional counseling state licensure and board certification, and in many cases, for the psychology and social work professions, as well.
