An AMCD webinar in partnership with ALGBTIC, ASERVIC, and TCA
Wednesday, May 25, 2016
1pm – 2:30pm (EDT)
The recent passing of the Tennessee HB 1840 allows counselors the right to deny counseling services to an individual based on the counselors strongly held beliefs. This law conflicts with the ACA code of ethics and may also conflict with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services mandate that says that states do not have the authority to deny health care to patients based on religion, race, sexual orientation, and other protected characteristics. In this webinar, representatives from Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling, Association for Spiritual, Ethical and Religious Values in Counseling, and the Tennessee Counseling Association will provide information about Tennessee HB 1840, the implications of this law for Professional Counselors and their clients (especially LGBTQ clients), and discuss what should be the Counseling profession’s response to this bill.
