The Awards

The Pennsylvania Counseling Association gives out the following awards annually:

PCA Eminent Practitioner Award -- Awarded to an outstanding professional counselor for service to the profession; nominees do not need to be PCA members.

PCA Lifetime Achievement Award -- Awarded to a PCA member who is a State of Pennsylvania resident and who has demonstrated outstanding dedication, service, and/or achievement in professional counseling.

PCA Outstanding Administrator Award -- Awarded to an outstanding institutional administrator who has demonstrated support of the professional counseling profession.

PCA Outstanding Counselor Education Program Award -- Awarded to an outstanding professional counseling program in the State of Pennsylvania.

PCA Outstanding Graduate Student Award -- Awarded to an individual who is currently a graduate student in professional counseling within the State of Pennsylvania and who shows excellent potential and professionalism; this individual shall be a PCA student member and shall have had some involvement with the association.

PCA Outstanding Research/Publication Award -- Awarded to a PCA member who has contributed to the professional counseling profession through outstanding effort in the area of research and/or publication.

PCA Presidential Award -- Awarded by the PCA president at his/her discretion.

   David W. Hall Advocacy Award -- Awarded to an individual who has promoted the
   profession of counseling through advocacy to whom the many professional
   counselors in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are forever indebted

 

Nomination Guidelines

  1. All nominations must be made in writing or email to the PCA Awards Committee by September 15, 2008 to one of the following addresses:  Dr. Peggy Lorah, 1612 Elizabeth Road, State College, PA  16801 or by submitting them to awards@pacounsleing.org
  2. The following information should be included with a nomination, as well as the significance of the contribution, program, or person in question:
    • title of the award for which the nomination is made
    • name and title of the nominee
    • mailing address, e-mail address, and telephone number(s) of the nominee
    • supportive data, which may include a curriculum vitae, program brochures, and letters-of-support (including one from the nominator) explaining the rationale for the nomination
    • mailing address, e-mail address, and telephone number(s) of the nominator

 

Selection Process

  • The PCA Awards Committee--a committee comprised of a chairperson and all PCA Executive Council members (i.e., the five PCA officers and the representatives from the PCA regional chapters, divisions, and special interest groups)--will select the recipient of each award.
  • Award packets, including copies of supportive materials and nomination forms, will be mailed to each committee member with a ballot to be completed and returned by the date specified.
  • The awards are announced at a special luncheon held during the PCA Annual Conference.
